ALL  PERFORMANCES WILL TAKE PLACE AT
THE TORONTO CENTRE FOR THE ARTS.

PERFORMANCE DATES:  

  • Saturday September 29, 2018 @8:00pm
  • Sunday September 30, 2018 @1:30pm and @7:30pm

Rehearsals will tentatively be held as follows (exact dates to be determined in June):

  • June 2018 – Readthrough / Singthrough in late June
  • July 2018 – 1 group music rehearsal on a weeknight
  • August 2018 – 1 group music rehearsal on a weeknight
  • September 2018 – Every weekend in September on either a Saturday or Sunday from 1:00pm to 6:00pm, and two weeknight rehearsals the week of the show

When submitting please indicate any dates you are not available in June, July, August, and September.

Please note: Everyone cast in this show MUST be available for every performance.

This will be a minimally staged concert version of Ragtime.  There will be no music stands and performers will be expected to have their parts memorized.

We are looking for a strong diverse ensemble, with a variety of vocal ranges.   Everyone who is singing a specific role may also be involved in “chorus” numbers.

For your submission please send two contrasting musical theatre pieces by video or YouTube link.  Please also send us your theatre resume and a recent headshot.

CHARACTERS (All age ranges are approximate)

Coalhouse Walker, Jr. Male Lead Baritone
A proud and talented pianist. He is sophisticated, with a romantic demeanor and gentle heart. African-American. Age: 25 to 35
Vocal range: G2-A4

Tateh Male Lead Tenor
An immigrant from Latvia, he is an artist and father. He wears the trials and tribulations of his past on his sleeve, but remains optimistic. Full of genuine drive and heart. Age: 35 to 45
Vocal range: Bb2-F#4

Mother Female Lead Mezzo-Soprano
The consummate wife and mother. A kind woman with incredible moral fiber. Refined, intelligent, and graceful. She is accepting of others. Age: 30 to 40
Vocal range: G3-F#5

Father Male Supporting Baritone
Mother’s professionally successful husband. He is commanding, and fancies himself an amateur explorer. Enjoys being the family breadwinner. Age: 30 to 45
Vocal range: A2-F4

Sarah Female Supporting Mezzo-Soprano
Washwoman. Sarah is beautiful and filled with a strong will to live fueled by an innocent spirit. Falls deeply in love with Coalhouse after much resistance. African-American. Age: 20 to 25
Vocal range: G#3-F#5

Younger Brother Male Supporting Tenor
Mother’s younger brother. With his obsessive personality, he is an erratic soul. Influenced greatly by Emma Goldman’s teachings. Age: 20 to 25
Vocal range: B2-F#4

Little Boy (Edgar) Male Supporting Alto
Mother and Father’s son. He is open-hearted and curious with inexplicable clairvoyance. Never passes judgement on others. Age: 8 to 13
Vocal range: E4-D5

Booker T. Washington Male Featured Baritone
Incredibly intelligent social activist. He is an eloquent and articulate gentleman with no patience for Black Americans leading less than exemplary lives. Age: 45 to 55
Vocal range: D3-Eb4

Emma Goldman Female Featured Alto
Social activist. With an unapologetically demanding presence, she is a leader and powerful woman. Russian-American. Age: 35 to 45
Vocal range: B3-D5

Grandfather Male Featured Spoken
Mother’s very conservative father. He is a retired professor and easily irritated by nearly everything. Age: 60 to 70

Harry Houdini Male Featured Baritone
The famous magician. Age: 25 to 35
Vocal range: E3-G4

Little Girl Female Featured Soprano
Tateh’s daughter. A confused and vulnerable child in a brand-new home, she is guarded and shy. Loves her father very much. Age: 8 to 13
Vocal range: C4-Bb4

Henry Ford Male Featured Tenor
Manufacturing innovator.  Age: 25-50
Vocal range: D3-G4

Evelyn Nesbit Female Featured Mezzo-Soprano
Beautiful vaudeville performer. Thrust into the limelight after the high profile murder of her lover, the entire world is her stage. Age: 20 to 30
Vocal range: D5-B3
